Alt-Right Artist Says He Creates Meryl Streep ‘She Knew’ Posters as Revenge for Trump

After spoke up against Harvey Weinstein, posters targeting the 68-year-old actress surfaced. The posters that popped up around Los Angeles earlier this week feature Streep next to Weinstein with the phrase “She Knew” written across her eyes. Now, a right-wing artist has claimed responsibility for the posters. Sabo, a 49-year-old former U.S. marine, says he created the posters and collaborated with two other persons to orchestrate the campaign as revenge against Streep for using her latest movie “” to criticize . “She’s swiping at us so we’re swiping back,” Sabo tells The Guardian.

Sabo, however, admits that he doesn’t know for sure whether or not the movie veteran knew about Weinstein’s alleged sexual abuse which has spanned decades. “I wasn’t sitting in a room with her. I can’t say 100%. But I’d say anyone in the (film) industry had a pretty good idea. I think she knew. Maybe she was providing Weinstein with the fresh meat,” he says.

The poster campaign came on the heels of protesting the plans that women will wear black at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards in solidarity with victims of sexual misconduct. Taking to her Twitter account, the “Charmed” alum who claimed she was raped by Weinstein wrote, “Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @goldenglobes in a silent protest. YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy.”

Responding to McGowan’s claim, Streep said in a statement, “It hurt to be attacked by Rose McGowan in banner headlines this weekend, but I want to let her know I did not know about Weinstein’s crimes, not in the 90s when he attacked her, or through subsequent decades when he proceeded to attack others.”

Streep, who worked on several films produced by Weinstein, had previously denied that she was aware of Weinstein’s alleged sexual misconduct when the scandal was first brought into attention. “The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported,” Streep said in October. “The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes.”

She stressed, “One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally.”

“I didn’t know about these other offenses: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts,” she added. “And If everybody knew, I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.”
