A valiant 44 minutes saw Scotland hold on against the world’s best team until Romelu Lukaku struck.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, and the striker had scored his and Belgium’s second.
The news pre-match wasn’t great either. Andy Robertson failed to make the starting XI or even the bench for the crucial clash with the world No.1s as he missed out with a hamstring injury.
Ryan Fraser – man of the match against Cyprus and rated at £30million – was dumped to the bench while James Forrest didn’t make the cut either.
It was a bold move for Steve Clarke who made FIVE changes to the team that only just edged the Cypriots 2-1 at Hampden on Saturday.
The manager is just in the job though and it would be unfair to be too critical ahead of tonight’s Euro 2020 qualifier at the Heysel.
Fraser was to come on in the first half, though, as Stuart Armstrong went off injured.
Here is the team that faces the world ranked No.1 side:
Scotland: Marshall; O’Donnell, Mulgrew, McKenna, Taylor; McLean, McGregor, McTominay, Armstrong, Russell; Burke.
Subs: Bain, McLaughlin, Forrest, McGinn, Brophy, Fraser, Palmer, Souttar, Findlay, McNulty, Shinnie.
