Elbowing my way through London in a stuporous state of exhaustion, I felt a million miles from the Cambodian beach I had been sprawled on the day before. It was 11am and I had been awake and travelling for 34 hours across seven time zones. A persistent dull headache, itchy eyes and heavy limbs plagued my body, and it was an effort to breathe, let alone navigate tubes and crowds. Hello jet lag, my old friend.

Experts say there is no cure for jet lag – or circadian dysrhythmia – only short-term fixes for symptoms like insomnia, stomach problems and tiredness. Preventative methods like keeping hydrated, exercise on arrival and melatonin pills, and gadgets like blue light blockers, are also recommended….
