The sides played out a 0-0 stalemate on Sunday, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, and County prevailed 5-3 in the shoot-out.

Both goalkeepers were called into action on multiple occasions throughout the tie, with Joe Day ultimately emerging as County’s hero.

Newport hit the woodwork three times over the course of the match, but ultimately couldn’t fire past Conrad Logan.

In extra-time, more chances went begging meaning that penalties had to settle the contest.

Newport will now face either Tranmere Rovers or Forest Green at the national stadium a week on Saturday.

Tranmere are a goal up from their first leg and will play the second game at Forest Green tomorrow.
