A riverside pub’s long-awaited reopening looks set to attract a big turn-out after being shut for a year.
The bar at the Crown & Anchor, Tickton, will open on Friday at 5pm, followed by full service with food from April 5.
Mike Higgins, who has taken over the pub, says there is huge interest in Friday’s reopening. He says: “We will be rammed.
“There has been massive interest, not just from the village but from Beverley and the surrounding area.
“We open at 5pm and expect about 200 people.”
Following the pub’s shock closure last year, when the previous licensee took on a pub in Beverley, many feared the historic 1823 venue would never reopen.
People took to social media speculating over the future of the pub, which is a landmark building overlooking the River Hull.
Mr Higgins says: “I understand the comments that were being made because previous to me, for whatever reason, they pulled out.
“Everyone was shocked it closed.
“I believe there was a disagreement between the manager and the owners.
“Whatever happened, happened.
“The owners are extremely happy that I have come in.
“They were just waiting for the right opportunity, for the right person to do it.
“It’s extremely important and valuable to the area to have it open.”
Mr Higgins, who has taken on a long lease for the pub, has 30 years’ experience managing hotels and restaurants. He is creating 11 jobs by reopening the Crown & Anchor.
He says: “I have invested heavily in it.
“The core of my staff are from the village so I have hired locally to keep jobs in the village.”
There will be live music at Friday’s reopening of the bar.
Following the re-launch, the pub’s normal hours will be 8am-11pm, with real ales from Molson Coors among the offerings. Traditional pub food will be served from Friday, April 5, from noon-3pm and from 5pm-9pm.

Mr Higgins says: “It will be a simple menu with good quality, locally-sourced produce.
“It will be affordable food.
“It’s a traditional pub menu with plenty of things for the kids.”
Coffee and snacks will also be served for dog walkers passing the country pub, which stands alongside the River Hull.
Mr Higgins wants it to be a vibrant venue, with Sky Sports TV, quiz nights and live music.
