With no substitute goalkeeper and Kevin Trapp sent off, the eccentric Brazil star donned the gloves in added time during their 4-1 French Cup win. The free-kick conceded by Trapp was blocked by the wall and he was able to see out the match without letting in a strike.

One of the sport’s lesser-spotted moments of madness is when outfield players must get their gloves on and take the role of goalkeeper, whether due to injuries or red cards.

On Tuesday night, Paris Saint-Germain star Dani Alves was the man who took the call of duty when team-mate Kevin Trapp was sent off in a 4-1 victory over Sochaux in the French Cup.

He didn’t have much to do as the game was already in injury time, but it gave spectactors some exhilaration in the closing stages.
