A manhunt is underway for the gunman, after a man was shot this morning on Weissenburger Strasse. Police said the perpetrator is still at large, and thought to still be armed. A police spokesman said: “After shooting at a person in Weißenburger Straße in #Dortmund, the perpetrator is still at large. We have strong forces looking for the suspect.”
Police in Dortmund told people to be vigilant and not to approach the gunman.
Witnesses told local media they saw a man with a long weapon. Heavily armed police officers have swooped on the area as police vehicles patrol the streets in the hunt for the gunman.
It is not yet known whether the shooting happened on the street or inside a building.
Weissenburger Strasse is a main road in a busy residential area.
Police spokesman Gunnar Wortmann told Bild: “One person was seriously injured. We are looking for the shooter.
“We can not provide any information on the background of the incident.”
The shooting happened just days after a riot where more than 80 people were seen throwing missiles and Molotov cocktails in the north of the city.
Police officers described Monday’s mass brawl as a “major conflict”, with chair legs, wooden slats and tools were also thrown.
About 150 people were watching the fight, in Schleswiger Platz and police needed back up from across the city to de-escalate the situation.
