The 20-0 (16 KOs) fighter has been previously talked up as a possible future foe for AJ
Eddie Hearn has revealed that he’s signed unbeaten Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang to a co-promotional deal.
The Matchroom boss will guide Zhang’s career alongside original promoters Roc Nation and intends to put him on a UK show next Saturday, April 20.
Hearn told iFL TV: “Our new signing will be the Chinese heavyweight Zhang and he will be fighting at the O2 next week.
“We’re gonna be working with Roc Nation with Zhang, he’s a big, southpaw, big-punching heavyweight.
“Undefeated, world ranked and he’s ready to go, so I’m excited to see him in action.”
The O2 Arena card on April 20 that the promoter is referring to will be topped by Dave Allen vs Lucas Browne and Dereck Chisora vs Senad Gashi in two other heavyweight clashes.
Hearn added that the opponent for Zhilei Zhang could possibly be Britain’s Tom Little.
Now 35, the Chinese heavyweight is heading towards the latter stages of his career, though he’s previously been talked up as a possible opponent for Anthony Joshua.
Eddie Hearn and more specifically Barry Hearn have previously given interviews in which they’ve discussed a potential clash between Joshua and Zhang at the Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium in Beijing as a potential dream bout to make AJ a truly international face.
Whether that is still part of their plans now remains to be seen.
