Police have responded to a report of an active shooter at a high school in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon, surrounding the campus and directing the evacuation of hundreds of students from the scene.
Deputies of the Broward County sheriff’s department said that Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was on a “code red” lockdown but a spokeswoman said she had no information about victims.
Keyla Concepcion, a spokeswoman for the department, said “there are reports of victims” but could not provide specifics. Unconfirmed local media reports said multiple people were injured.
Just after 3pm local time, the department tweeted: “shooter still at large.”
Live helicopter footage of the scene showed children fleeing the building with their hands up and dragging backpacks behind them, toward police and a line of ambulances and paramedics.
