Nicklas Bendtner was the top scorer in Norway with 19 goals last season
Bendtner, who currently plays for Norwegian side Rosenborg, has emerged as a surprise target for Rennes, who are keen to strengthen their forward line before the end of the transfer window.
Bordeaux had their sights set on West Ham outcast Sakho, who eventually opted to join Ligue 1 rivals Rennes instead.
‘Lord’ Bendtner, who left the Gunners in 2014 after a nine-year stay, has struggled to settle since and spent some time with Championship side Nottingham Forest back in 2016.
Since joining Rosenborg though, Bendtner has rediscovered some of his best form, finishing the Norwegian season as the league’s top-scorer with 19 goals.
New Bordeaux manager Gus Poyet has encouraged the club board to go after the former Gunners frontman, with Bendtner wanting to ensure a place in Denmark’s World Cup side.
Bordeaux will look to sign the 30-year-old in an initial loan deal, although there are claims the club’s board are not fully convinced he is the player they need.
