Chelsea’s win against Manchester City was “a feather in the cap” for Maurizio Sarri, according to former City midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
The Blues became the first team to beat Pep Guardiola’s men this season as goals from N’Golo Kante and David Luiz helped Sarri’s side to success at Stamford Bridge. on Saturday.
And although Hargreaves said it could have been a different story, the former England international was full of praise for the Blues and their manager in particular.
“I thought City at the start of the game were by far the better team, and if they had taken their chances they could have been out of sight,” Hargreaves said, speaking on BT Sport.
“But really for [Maurizio] Sarri, that is a feather in his cap in terms of playing [N’Golo] Kante in that position and David Luiz coming back after having a nightmare, so for Sarri, his football won.
“It was a big result for them.”
Meanwhile, former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas said the win was just rewards for Chelsea’s effort on the day.
“I thought City were the better team in the first half, but Chelsea hung in there and did the difficult things, like trying to keep the ball in the wide areas and they got their rewards for it.
“Kante pops up at the right time and in the right position for the first goal.”
