A man seen carrying a machete has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an “unexplained” death in northwest London.
Police were called to reports of a man who was injured in Northolt Road, Harrow, on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, who was in his mid-40s, was treated at the scene for a suspected stab or slash wound but died half-an-hour later.
The Metropolitan Police said the death was being treated as “unexplained” but a man was being questioned on suspicion of murder.
The suspect was detained after officers were told he had been seen running away from the scene with a machete, a force statement said.
He was taken to a north London police station and remains in custody.
Police say it is not yet known if the machete was used and detectives are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine if the victim’s wound was “a recent or pre-existing injury”.
The victim’s next of kin are still to be informed and formal identification is yet to take place, a police statement said.
Officers remain at the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage to establish what happened.
