The Jeremy Kyle Show has been suspended indefinitely by ITV after Monday’s episode was cancelled following the death of a guest who died shortly after filming.
A review into the episode, which will now never be screened, is being conducted by ITV with bosses suspending broadcasting and filming of the popular morning show, according to Mirror Online.
Viewers at home were initially mystified by the change to the schedule with Dickinson’s Real Deal aired at 9.25am instead of the talk show.
However, ITV released a statement confirming the death of a guest and the decision to suspend filming and broadcasting with immediate effect.
An ITV spokeswoman said: “Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends.
“ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured.
“Given the seriousness of this event, ITV has also decided to suspend both filming and broadcasting of The Jeremy Kyle Show with immediate effect in order to give it time to conduct a review of this episode of the show.”
Every single episode of The Jeremy Kyle Show has also been taken off the ITV Hub catch-up service.
Fans wanting to watch previous episodes of the show which began in 2005 were greeted with an error message when they searched for it on the ITV Hub.
The Mirror Online reports that a message popped up saying: “The page you’re looking for can’t be found. We hope you’ll enjoy catching up on one of your other favourite shows.”
Despite the uncertainty over the show’s future, singer Christopher Maloney and soap star Danniella Westbrook have separately confirmed that The Jeremy Kyle Show will return to ITV.
The pair were due to feature on a special celebrity edition of the programme on Tuesday morning but this has now been cancelled.
On Twitter, X Factor’s Chris said: “Hi guys, just spoken to the producers # ITVJeremyKyle and our celebrity special will be aired at a later date @ westbrookdanni will keep you updated. In the mean time my thoughts are with the family at this time.”
Former EastEnders actress Danniella also spoke about the cancellation.
She tweeted: “I’ve just been informed #ITVJeremyKyle will now not be airing tomorrow .. Im hoping you guys get to see it at a later date but catch me on @loosewomen tomorrow.”
However, Danniella later tweeted that her Loose Women appearance had also been scrapped as a result of the decision by The Jeremy Kyle Show.
She said: “SO @loosewomen now cancelled me tomorrow due to @ITVJeremyKyle being taken off air indefinitely.. So will catch up with you all soon.”
The Jeremy Kyle Show confronts issues such as relationship troubles, cheating and drug abuse. It helps the public get to grips with real-life issues, ranging from indiscretions and infidelities to fetishes and flirting.
The presenter also regularly reveals lie detector and DNA test results to guests on the show.
He is joined by psychotherapist Graham Stanier, who helps deal with aftercare and speaks to the guests after the cameras stops filming.
ITV declined to add further comment about the cancellation and did not give any hints as to the topic of Monday’s show.
