Lightning strike kills woman in Scottish Highlands while out walking

The unnamed woman, aged 55, was with six others when she and another of her group were struck on Na Gruagaichean in the Mamore Range near Kinlochleven.

Scottish Ambulance, an HM Coastguard helicopter and Glencoe Mountain Rescue were all called to help.

All seven were airlifted to Fort William, where the woman died of her injuries.

Another woman has been taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William.

Her condition is believed to be stable.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed.

Inspector Isla Campbell, Local Area Policing Inspector for Lochaber said: “We are grateful for the prompt and professional response from partner agencies to this tragic incident and offer our condolences to the lady’s family.”
