Wayne Rooney issues Man Utd transfer advice
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has offered his former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer some bold transfer advice ahead of his busy summer window.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is close to completing his first deal of the summer with the club confirming an agreement has been reached for Swansea winger Daniel James.
Although United fans are desperate to see a big name signing come through the door at Old Trafford next, Wayne Rooney has warned Solskjaer against that approach, and recommended that he sign several younger and cheaper players.
Rooney told BBC Sport: “The first thing Ole has to do is build the squad and I don’t think bringing in one or two players for £100m is going to help the players already there.
“Ole’s better spending £30-40million on players with potential and building the squad around those five or six players.
“You could bring in players in [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Lionel] Messi, [Sergio] Ramos or [Gareth] Bale but it’s going to cost you £350m and you’d get two years out of them and you’ve written that money off.”

Liverpool legend gives Man Utd advice
Manchester United should not sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid – and must spend the money on up to five other new players instead, says Steve Nicol.
“If you physically struggle to play for any length of time in La Liga, do you think you’re going to go to the Premier League and play a full season?” Nicol said.
“Now, that’s okay if you’re a half decent player on half decent money, you can be part of the squad.
“But you can’t be going paying the amount of money he’s going to be looking for in a transfer fee from Madrid and then wages.
“So where is this guy going to go? I don’t know where he goes. How many games is this guy [going to be fit for] if you can’t play the equivalent of half a season in La Liga?
“How can he go [to United]? They’ve already got a brick round their neck with [Alexis] Sanchez on £300,000-a-week.
“They’re going to sign Gareth Bale who they know won’t be able to play a full season, who’s going to be on silly money as well.
“Manchester United have to go and sign four or five proven players that can actually get it done. How can they afford it?”

Paul Pogba to link up with Maurizio Sarri at Juventus?
Juventus will this week look to get a jump on Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain to launch their bid to re-sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
The French World Cup winner is set to leave Old Trafford for a second time this summer after a disappointing season saw United fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Pogba is in demand with the trio of European giants interested in signing him, even though Manchester United want to recoup the club record £89million they spent on him in 2016.
Juventus are eyeing him as a statement signing to hail in new era of Maurizio Sarri, who will this week sign a three-year-deal to move from Chelsea.
But the most serious threat could come from PSG, who been working behind the scenes sounding out if Pogba would be interested in a return to his homeland.

Joao Felix latest
Manchester United transfer target Joao Felix “doesn’t want to” negotiate further about his future at Benfica, admitted club president Luis Filipe Vieira.
Express Sport understands United are interested in signing young talent this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots a mass overhaul at Old Trafford.
“We sit down with players and they say: ‘President, I can earn five million euros, president, do not make me stay here,’” Vieira told club members.
“Joao Felix had a release clause of £53.4m (£60m) and we realised after two or three games that we must increase it to £107m (£120m).
“But it is Joao Felix and his family who will decide if he stays. If someone bids £107m (€120m) it is not worth dreaming that he will stay.
“We are trying everything to ensure he stays. But the only way is if we sell him and keep him another year.
If not, Joao leaves. There is no room to negotiate further. He doesn’t want to.”

Ed Woodward stance on Anthony Martial
Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has made the club’s stance on Anthony Martial clear after Daniel James completed his move from Swansea to Old Trafford.
That is according to journalist Duncan Castles, who believes that Solskjaer himself would have no problem with the Frenchman leaving the club this summer.
“Perhaps Solskjaer would like to move Anthony Martial on having seen the drop in his performance after he got his new contract,” Castles told The Transfer Window podcast.
“Although, we’ve seen it reported elsewhere that at least one of the Glazers does not want Martial to be sold and I would suspect Ed Woodward would be in the same camp as he has always had a great reluctance at selling any of his own signings.
“Daniel James, talking to scouts in the game, big surprise that Manchester United are going for him and they don’t see he has the range of abilities or the likelihood of developing into a Champions League winner.
“He played for Swansea in a very attacking team. They were renowned for being extremely positive under Graham Potter, who’s now obviously moved to Brighton to change their style.”

Gareth Bale to Man Utd for just £25m?
Manchester United could seal a deal with Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale for as little as £25million this summer – by signing the Wales forward on loan.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed one Wales forward this summer after Daniel James joined from Swansea, and could seal another in the coming days.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is desperate to sell Gareth Bale to free up transfer funds after the former Spurs man failed to impress in the latter stages of the season.
Although the club are not as determined to sell their 2013 Galactico as much as their French boss, a loan deal could suit both clubs as it offers a smaller risk.
Both United and Tottenham have been linked with £75million permanent deals for the 29-year-old, but his fitness worries and lack of form have put off both clubs from parting with that amount of money.
However, Bale could still find himself at Old Trafford next season in the form of a season-long loan deal which could cost the club around £25m.

PSG to offer £80m for Matthijs de Ligt
Matthijs de Ligt is set to be the subject of an £80m bid from Paris Saint-Germain as the French giants look to beat Manchester United and Barcelona to his signature.
The Ajax ace is in high demand after impressing in captaining the side to a Champions League semi-final and a Dutch top flight title.
De Ligt has also impressed in helping Holland to the Nations League final where they will face Portugal later today.
Barcelona are thought to have agreed personal terms with the 19-year-old but he has yet to make a decision on playing at the Nou Camp.
And now SPORT claim PSG are ready to offer a huge salary to beat them to his signature.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also desperate to bring De Ligt to Old Trafford as he looks to overhaul his side this summer.

David De Gea to be paid to leave
Manchester United are willing to pay David de Gea £20million out of their own pocket to get him to leave in the summer, according to reports.
De Gea is out of contract next June and they risk losing him on a free unless he is sold in the current transfer window.
The Sun claim Paris Saint-Germain are lining up a bid of between £60m and £75m.
But the report says United will hand £20m of that straight to De Gea as a ‘golden handshake’ to convince him to leave before running down his contract.
It would mark a huge blow for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is looking to overhaul his squad.

Man Utd make bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Manchester United have made a significant bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, it has been claimed.
Sky Sports say Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to add the Crystal Palace right-back to his ranks this summer.
That’s following the exit of Antonio Valencia and because of the fact Ashley Young is in the twilight of his career.
Wan-Bissaka has three years remaining on his contract at Palace and it would take a big offer to tempt the Eagles into selling.
