First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, shocked eagle-eyed viewers when they spotted an unusual fashion choice. Mrs Trump visited elementary school students in Charleston, South Carolina, with Second Lady, Karen Pence. The two women joined a group of 10 year olds who are participating in the Red Cross’s Pillowcase Project, a program that helps children mentally and physically prepare for natural disasters.
During the visit, the First Lady wore a pair of brown suede toe-cap heels.
Later in the day, Mrs Trump and Mrs Pence headed to Joint Base Charleston in North Charleston to meet with members of the military and their families.
The two women were first greeted by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and his wife, Peggy, upon their arrival.
While visiting Joint Base Charleston’s emergency operations centre, they received a briefing from major emergency response teams about hurricane preparedness and their response to recent hurricanes.

At some point during the trip, the First Lady traded her stilettos for a pair of practical brown suede flats topped with bows.
This shocked commentators as it was highly unusual for the President’s wife to forgo heels.
The First Lady even refused to remove them during a hurricane.
In 2017, during the Hurricane Harvey disaster, Mrs Trump was mercilessly mocked for sporting a pair of precarious stilettos.
The First Lady also made a speech to those in attendance.
She began by addressing her Second Lady: “Thank you, Karen.
“And thank you and your team, who remain very dedicated to supporting our armed services through the great work you do with military spouses.
“Our military has never been stronger or more capable than it is now.
“And our nation will continue to stand strong in the face of any enemy.”
