Did Jussie Smollett get freed from all charges in alleged staged attack case because of his connection to Michelle Obama? Words are the former First Lady had something to do with the actor’s release, albeit indirectly.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, former Michelle Obama aide, Tina Tchen, reached out to Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx to talk about the Smollett case. Tchen, a Chicago attorney who used to work as chief of staff for Mrs. Obama, reportedly wrote in a text message, “I wanted to give you a call on behalf of Jussie Smollett and family who I know. They have concerns about the investigation.”

Tchen then gave Foxx’s number to a relative of Smollett, who contacted the State’s Attorney to discuss their concerns about leaked information about the investigation. Following their conversations, Foxx tried to persuade Police Supt. Eddie Johnson to turn the investigation over to the FBI.

When the Chicago police denied her request, she recused herself from the case. But Foxx then un-recused herself from the case and announced on Tuesday, March 26 that the charges against Smollett were dropped.

There’s no word, though, on whether Mrs. Obama had any knowledge of this alleged deal between Smollett and Foxx or if she asked Tchen to make the call.

Foxx was slammed by Chicago police chief Eddie Johnson and Mayor Rahm Emanuel after letting Smollett off the hook. Insisting that “Smollett committed this hoax,” Johnson suggested the defense team had brokered a deal with prosecutors to “circumvent the judicial system.” Meanwhile, Emanuel stated, “This is a whitewash of justice.”

Conservative pundit Ann Coulter also called out Foxx. Referencing to the murder of an off-duty police officer by two men, Menelik Jackson and Jovan Battle, she said, “Let’s just hope Kim Foxx doesn’t drop all charges.”

She went on dragging Mrs. Obama due to the rumors of her former aide’s intervention in the case. “Do any former Michelle Obama aides know the perps’ families?” Coulter tweeted. “They could be in for a nice surprise!”
