The panel constituted by the Kano state House of Assembly to investigate the veracity or otherwise of the video clips released by an online newspaper, Daily Nigeran, depicting Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as collecting bribe from contractors yesterday said it would proceed with its assignment.
The chairman of the committee, Bappa Baba Dan’angundi, told newsmen that there was no court order that asked the committee to stop the investigation.
The committee was supposed to have previewed the video clips yesterday, but a restraining order was reportedly issued by a Kano State High Court presided over by Justice A. T. Badamasi stopping the committee from the exercise after a group of lawyers under the aegis of “Lawyers for Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria” had filed a case challenging the powers of the assembly from conducting the investigation.
Dan’agundi said: “We are here today to give the position of the Kano State House of Assembly and the committee investigating alleged bribery against Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. We have received a court process filed by some lawyers and we are going to put in our appearance to respect the rule of law and respect the court.
“It is important to note that the court did not stop the committee from doing its work, the court only pronounced that status quo be maintained, you can translate it to your understanding, but there is no order that says stop work. I think the committee will go on with its work when we put in our appearance by Monday.”
