Oleg Artemyev, 47, surprised Ivanka, a senior adviser to her father, when she was given the chance to chat over the phone with crew aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
The cosmonaut seized the chance to show his affection while he was on the line to her.
Artemyev said: “I think you are a very kind and nice person. When I see you on TV and the news, my mood improves and rises.”
Ivanka smiled and revealed she was pleased to be able to speak to the crew as she had always had dreams of doing their job.
She said: “I always wanted to go into space. You are fulfilling my dream up there.”
After the live chat with the astronauts flying 250 miles above the Earth, she toured a mock-up of the ISS in Houston, Texas, and checked out the spacesuits.
“Dream realised,” she tweeted along with a video of her tour.
The 36-year-old Whitehouse aide also met students competing in a robotics competition and her tour ended with her test-driving a robot built by them.
She also took time out to take questions from interns at the space centre who are learning about engineering and science as part of their training at Nasa.
Ivanka was on a visit to the space centre along with Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who has been campaigning in Texas.
Cruz is in an unusually close race against Democrat candidate Beto O’Rourke in the US mid-terms.
The November elections are expected to be a referendum on the Trump presidency, with polls suggesting the Republicans could lose control of the lower House of Representatives.
That could end up hitting President Trump’s agenda and increase the chances of the Democrats seeking impeachment proceedings against him
