Lampard’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Bohemians in his first match in charge but Pedro has been encouraged by the new Blues boss’ ‘clever ideas’

Chelsea star Pedro has admitted he has been impressed with the start Frank Lampard has made with the club.

The ex-England midfielder steered Derby to the brink of promotion to the Premier League last term but ultimately failed at the final hurdle with defeat in the play-off final to Aston Villa.

And despite his inexperience in management, Blues chiefs jumped at the opportunity to replace Maurizio Sarri with the 41-year-old, who took charge of his first game on Tuesday evening.

Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Bohemians after Eric Molloy’s 89th minute goal cancelled out Michy Batshuayi’s opener.

And although they were frustrated late on by the Irish side, Spanish winger Pedro has been encouraged by Lampard’s approach.

“We’ve been training really hard with Frank this week,” he said. “It’s very hard work, high intensity. We’re pressing a lot without the ball, when we’ve got the ball we have to move it quickly, and in transition (we have to be) very good.

“It’s very good to work under Frank. He’s a legend at this club. He’s a very good coach with very good ideas but it’s only five days working with him and for the future we have to prepare very well this month.”

Following the match. Chelsea’s all-time top scorer said: “It was a good run-out, we had good support and thanks for people turning out. It was a tough first game for us as we have not been back for long.

“We’ve only been back just a few days so there had been some pressure on the lads and we have been working them very hard. I am pleased with the outcome.

“Fitness was our issue but I wanted to stretch them a bit and put them under pressure.

“This is what pre-season is all about and the quicker we get there, to the level we want, then the better. We wanted to win the game as you always do but it is not about that.”
