One of Princes Avenue’s most popular bars is back open for Easter weekend.
The Thrift has taken over the former Florins bar on the corner of Princes Avenue and Duesbery Street, which has stood empty since Indian restaurant The Tiffin Box suddenly closed last year.
Owners are now keen for people to enjoy the historic building during the upcoming sun-filled, four-day weekend, and will be opening for drinks this weekend.
Dave Brown, who also owns Crafted in Princes Avenue, said: “We want to go back to the bar it was, serving cocktails and making it a community hub.
“That’s why we’ve got the grass outside, and it’s the same as at Crafted, and we’re due to be getting some picnic tables so people can enjoy the sun.

“We’re also going to be dog-friendly, and here and Crafted are currently the only venues in the street to have the Guinness citrus IPA on tap.”
The former Yorkshire bank building has been refurbished with muted colours and a bar stocked with crafts ales and lagers, as well as fresh ingredients for cocktails.
Food will be available at The Thrift, but not for the next couple of weeks.
“We’ve gone with The Thrift because it’s a slang word for money, and we wanted to tie it in to the fact it used to be a bank”, said Dave, who co-owns the business with Pat Brown.
“We didn’t want to miss out on this weekend, so we will be opening for drinks from Friday night, and we’re hoping to have the kitchen up and running in two weeks’ time.
“The food will be a bit like that we serve at Crafted, with more of a twist, and we eventually want to start serving teas in the afternoon.
“We’re going for a loungey feel, where people can just come in and relax, and we’re in talks with musicians to start holding open mic nights and live music.”
The Thrift will be open seven days a week from 11am to 11.30pm.
