Belgium manager Roberto Martinez hopes his team’s stunning World Cup victory over five-time winners Brazil will inspire pride back home.

Fernandinho’s own goal and a Kevin De Bruyne stunner sent the Red Devils through to the semi-finals despite Renato Augusto’s late goal in a thrilling encounter.

Belgium’s golden generation shone on the big stage, with masterclasses from Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois, and Martinez believes they have earned the right to be heroes.

He told talkSPORT: “We had incredible hearts out there. Sometimes you have to accept that Brazil have this finesse, that quality that will break you down, but they didn’t accept it.

“I didn’t even think for one minute that they were going to give up. This is something special.

“These boys deserve to be real special people back in Belgium. I hope that everyone in Belgium is very proud.”
