One person has been killed after a microlight aircraft crashed at the Royal Birkdale Golf Course in Merseyside, police say.
Emergency services were called to the scene at about 7pm on Thursday evening.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue were also called to extinguish a fire which broke out when the aircraft hit the ground.
A statement from Merseyside Police added: “We can confirm following a microlight aircraft crash this evening, Thursday, 11 April, at the Royal Birkdale Golf Course a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“We are still establishing the facts and the identity of the person and enquiries are ongoing.”
Road closures were put in place and motorists advised to avoid the area.
