THE REAL DEAL: The items are believed to be original Nazi artefacts

The room was found behind a bookcase in Argentina – where a number of leading Nazis fled after the war.

Included in the stash is a bust of Hitler, a knife engraved with a swastika and a statue of an Eagle.

Medical gear used to measure head size was also recovered, as well as Nazi-themed toys.

One box even contained magnifying glasses that were likely used by the Nazi leader himself, experts claim.

A photo negative of Hitler holding a magnifying glass reveals a piece of kit very similar to those found in the hoard.

“We have turned to historians and they’ve told us it is the original magnifying glass” said Argentine police chief Nestor Roncaglia.

Cops found the stash of 75 Nazi treasures in Beccar, a suburb of Buenos Aires, while investigating illicit artworks found on display in the city.

Agents with the international police force Interpol began following the collector and raided the house with a judicial order on June 8.

Patricia Bullrich, the Argentine Security Minister, said: “Our first investigations indicate that these are original pieces.”

She noted that many pieces were accompanied by old photos depicting them, as “a way to commercialize them”.

“It’s showing that they were used by the Fuhrer. There are photos of him with the objects,” she added.

Police did not identify the collector, who remains free, but is still under investigation by a federal judge.

Mr Roncaglia said the cops were now trying to identify how the Nazi artefacts got to Argentina.

The leading theory is that they arrived with senior figures fleeing Hitler’s Third Reich.

Announcing an investigation, Mr Roncaglia said: “There are no precedents for a find like this.

SMUGGLED: Investigators suspect the goods came to Argentina with fleeing high-level Nazis

“Pieces are stolen or are imitations, but this is original and we have to get to the bottom of it.”

Ariel Cohen Sabban, a leading figure in Argentina’s Jewish community, called the find “unheard of” in the country.

“Finding 75 original pieces is historic and could offer irrefutable proof of the presence of top leaders who escaped Nazi Germany,” he said.

One top Nazi who fled to Argentina, Adolf Eichmann – a leading architect of the Holocaust – was later kidnapped by Israel, put on trial and hanged in 1962.
