The Netherlands centre half is one of the most coveted young footballers in the world
Matthijs de Ligt is one of the most in-demand young footballers in the world right now and is wanted by a host of top European clubs.
However, a group of Liverpool fans have begged boss Jurgen Klopp to sign the Netherlands defender to partner Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.
Tasked with keeping a resilient Germany attack quiet on Saturday, the 19-year-old excelled at the back alongside the Reds defender.
Joachim Low could only watch on as his side were torn apart by a rejuvenated Dutch side thanks to goals from Liverpool duo van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum, before a late third from Manchester United flop Memphis Depay.
The result leaves Ronald Koeman’s side on the brink of qualifying from their UEFA Nations League group, with de Ligt excelling.
For most fans though, this is unlikely to come as a surprise.
Despite his tender age, de Ligt captains Ajax having made just 76 senior appearances for the senior side. Strong, quick and good on the ball, the comparisons with van Dijk and extremely deserved and his level-headed approach will stand him in good stead.
With Juventus and Manchester City reportedly at the front of the queue to sign him, Klopp may be best served with taking the advice of these fans on Twitter, who could not help but rave about the starlet. Check out the best responses below!
