Brunch is an important meal.
It signals a day off work, a chance to be with friends and family, and delicious breakfast food.
What makes brunch even better is when it is served with unlimited Prosecco, and luckily there’s a Hull hotel serving possibly the best bottomless brunch in the city.
For £25, visitors to the Doubletree Hilton in Ferensway can enjoy two-courses and as much Prosecco as they want during a 90-minute period – and the staff aren’t slack when it comes to the top-ups.
The bottomless brunch is available every day Saturday from 11am to 2pm, so myself and two friends booked ourselves for as early as possible, giving us the rest of the day for shopping and probably more Prosecco.

We were seated at our table within 15 minutes of arriving, and the first glasses of Prosecco were in our hands as soon as possible – with a raspberry popped in for a splash of colour.
While we chose our food and waited for it to arrive, our glasses were topped up three more times, and we were never left with an empty glass.
As part of the deal, the table is brought a sharing platter of pastries as a starter, with each person allocated a freshly baked, still hot croissant, a custard pastry and a cinnamon swirl, accompanied by salted butter and pots of jam and marmalade.
The pastries were delicious, especially the cinnamon swirls, and we soon polished off the platter while being topped up with more Prosecco.
For those who don’t want the Prosecco there is the option of mimosas – Bucks Fizz to you and me – or soft drinks including tea and coffee.
While we were nattering and gossiping, we soon realised our glasses were being topped up without us noticing, and soon enough our mains had arrived.
We opted for fluffy pancakes with smoked, streaky bacon and maple syrup, as well as the pancakes topped with berries, whipped cream and maple syrup.
We also ordered the eggs California, which was two poached eggs on top of smashed avocado with lime and black pepper, on toasted sourdough, as well as roasted cherry tomatoes and a balsamic glaze.
The menu was difficult to choose from as everything looks so appetising, with other options including free range, four-egg omelette with either mushrooms and cheddar cheese, bacon and cheese or tomato and spinach balsamic glaze; eggs benedict; a skillet stack with bacon, sausage, mushroom, hash brown, tomato, spiced beans and a fried egg; or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
The poached eggs were perfectly cooked, and the avocado was full of flavour and seasoning. The best part was the juicy cherry tomatoes that gave off morsels of sweetness, and while the portion looked large, it was relatively light compare with the pancakes.
With five fluffy pancakes piled high and a plethora of toppings, my fellow diners only managed half their portions before surrendering.
The pancakes were deliciously soft and sweet, but as we had already gorged on pastries, perhaps a word of advice would be to order something savoury so as not to end up in a sugar coma.
For £25 per person, this bottomless brunch is worth every penny.
The mains are worth from £7 to £8 if bought separately, and I couldn’t tell you the number of glasses of Prosecco we had.
The meal was ended with an espresso each, which was also part of the package, and I am sure the pastries would have cost several pounds, too.
The staff were quick, friendly and all too happy to help with anything we needed.
This is certainly a brunch we will be returning to.
