The owner of a new party business which organises eye-catching tent sleepovers said she has been overwhelmed with bookings.
Jess Powell launched Moonlight Memories in November last year, and admitted she was unsure whether the business would work.
But within hours of launching the sleepover business on Facebook, she was inundated with requests from customers.
Ms Powell said she believed the rise of social media sites such as Instagram, and parents wanting to share their child’s party with the world, is one of the reasons behind the success.
She said: “I used to work at a bakery, and originally wanted to get into doing cake decorating. Unfortunately it is very difficult to make any money just doing cakes.
“I then spotted on social media someone in New York had done one of these sleepover parties, and that is where the idea came from.
“To be honest, I made the Facebook page, put some photos of the tents up, but was worried no one would be interested.
“In the first day though I had between 10 and 15 requests from people. It’s just gone crazy.”
Ms Powell said the most popular party themes for girls at the moment were mermaid and unicorn-themed.
For boys, however, it’s all about online game Fortnite.
“I think we are living in this time where everything is put on social media,” Ms Powell said.
“Parents are looking for the next big thing, and want to show everyone the party they have done for their child.
“They also worry with sleepovers about the practical things like bedding, so this takes care of all of that for them.”
Ms Powell also said the influence of celebrities like the Kardashians had helped the business, and revealed plans to expand the parties out to adults in the future.
She said: “One of the Kardashians recently had a tepee party for a baby shower, so I think in the future I want to branch out into adult parties as well.
“I have also contacted wedding venues, because I think having some of the tents at a wedding for the children there would be really good.
“The good thing about the business is once one child has had a sleepover party, other parents who have had a child at the same one want to do a similar thing and get in touch.”
