A cosy East Yorkshire boozer selling real ales and homemade food has been crowned the best pub in the county.
The Old Star in the small village of Kilham near Driffield has been named the finest pub in the East Riding in the National Pub & Bar Awards.
The pub has been selected on overall best practice across a number of operational categories and will receive an accolade during a red carpet celebration in London on May 22.
Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which hosts the event, said: “Selecting this year’s 94 County Winners has been nothing short of inspiring.
“From idyllic countryside pubs to inner city cocktail bars, this is the most eclectic and exciting industry in the world. It’s a privilege to help these businesses get the recognition they deserve.”
The Old Star, which is based in Church Street, describes itself as a “traditional country pub in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds and the local community”.
It always guarantees a “friendly and warm welcome even on the coldest of winter nights” and serves real ales and freshly prepared meals using only local produce.
A total of 94 pubs have been crowned the best in their respective areas and counties in the National Pub & Bar Awards which aims to put the finest on-trade businesses across the UK in the spotlight.

At the ceremony next month, which will be hosted by restaurant critic Jay Rayner, 15 regional winners will be announced as well as the esteemed accolade – the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year.
