Earlier this year, the power couple decided to honor the wife of Prince Harry by featuring a regal portrait of the Duchess of Sussex in a speech video for the 2019 BRIT Awards.
Internet was buzzing when Beyonce Knowles and husband Jay-Z surprisingly honored Meghan Markle in a video of them accepting their trophy for the International Group Award at the 2019 BRIT Awards back in February. People have been wondering how the Duchess of Sussex reacted to the tribute, and now a friend of Meghan lets the world know about it in a new interview.
Meghan’s friend and makeup artist Danil Martin revealed to host Gayle King in CBS News’ “Meghan and Harry Plus One” that the new mom was so happy with the kind gesture from the big musicians. It appeared that Meghan was so speechless that she could only share an emoji.
“I sent her a pic,” Martin said. “I think it was a screen grab of the two of them in front of the portrait. I think all I wrote was, ‘Girl.’ ”
For the response of the wife of Prince Harry, Martin revealed, “She wrote me back like the big eye emoji.”
Despite winning the award, Beyonce and Jay-Z were unable to accept the trophy in person, so they sent a video to make up for it. The power couple recreated their “Apes**t” music video, which found them posing in front of a painting of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”. However, instead of using the same painting, the Carters were standing in front of a portrait of Meghan donning a sparkling crown and pearl necklace.
“Thank you so much to the Brit awards for this incredible honor. You guys have always been so supportive. Everything is love. Thank you,” Bey said to the camera, before Jay added, “You’re welcome.” The duo then turned to look at the portrait.
People were understandably stunned by the Duchess of Sussex’s “surprise appearance,” and it soon became a hot topic on the internet. “Just when I think I couldn’t love Beyonce more. So happy to see that she and Jay Z are supporting the Duchess of Sussex. I’m super pumped!” one reacted as someone couldn’t contain his/her excitement, “THE CARTERS STANDING IN FRONT OF THIS ICONIC PAINTING OF QUEEN MEGHAN MARKLE WE #BRITs.”
