It is not everyone’s cup of tea, but a footlong battered sausage is just what the doctor ordered.
Despite being stood on Beverley Road for over half a century, Smithy’s Chippy takeaway only began selling their £2 bigfoot battered sausages a couple of years ago.
The 12″ wonder is not the pick of the menu on a Friday evening, with Fish and Chip fans keen to get cod and haddock options from their traditional takeaway menu.
But costing a modest £2 for a bigfoot battered sausage, with exclusive chips and Smithy’s tasty curry sauce, it’s a brilliant choice for any hungry takeaway lover.
Graham and Lynn Smith are currently at the helm of the traditional fish and chip shop which has stood in the same spot for 50 years.
It’s easy to see that they love their grub almost as much as I do.
Forcing their famous pattie on me before I had even got through the door, Graham is proud of his heritage – and despite being 64-years-old – he says he will never quit the chippy because he loves it so much.
Graham said: “I will retire when I don’t enjoy it anymore. It was my sister’s place and I took it up on a part-time basis, but I took it over 35 years ago myself and have loved it.”
After telling Graham I’m here for the holy grail of sausage heaven, he still makes me down a standard potato pattie – which is out of this world may I add – while I’m waiting.
The melt-in-your-mouth batter of the bigfoot sausage is what makes it such a hit with fans, and the juicy sausage is perfectly cooked for just the amount of time – and you can’t argue with that mouthwatering chip shop smell.
The best thing about the sausage was the lack of grease and its accompanying curry sauce was to die for.
The megolithic meal is not a classic nationwide, but there’s a reason why so many people go mad for it.
Priding itself on being authentic and Hull’s best fish and chip takeaway outlet, it’s easy to see why people can’t get enough of the quaint chippy nestled into the Beverley Road takeaways and barber shops.
Other menu favourites include spam fritters, haddock, cod, skate and beef burgers
But for £2 for the bigfoot footlong sausage you can’t really go wrong for such a large, filling meal.
